Dog Friendly!
Every dog has his day! Now, vacationing and local dogs are enjoying theirs as new dog-friendly features are available at Olde Lafayette Village and the Lafayette Mill Antiques Center.
Olde Lafayette Village and the Mill are both located in historic Lafayette, New Jersey, a scenic town with green spaces, ponds and the Paulinskill River all within walking distance of, well everything. A dog friendly nature path (part of Sussex County’s Rails to Trails) connects both shopping areas and can be walked in 10 minutes. Olde Lafayette Village’s pathways, picnic tables, and lawns have long been used as a great place to socialize and be social with dogs. There are more than a few things that family and Fido can do together, thanks to some new businesses and offerings.
The Chocolate Parfait in Olde Lafayette Village has added Frosty Paws ice cream so the whole family can enjoy ice cream on a hot day, either under a tree next to the duck pond or at one of their bistro tables outside. Everything Homemade Pastry Shop & Café bakes delicious carob-chip ‘Pupcakes’, a special treat!
Most stores have special dog-related items for purchase, including the new Adiel Jewelry Company, which makes exotic semi-precious stone dog collars.
Take your dog to the brand new off-leash dog run, now open daily during business hours. The dog run will have a Yappy Hour between 5 and 6pm every afternoon – time set aside in the dog run exclusively for small dogs under 30 lbs.
You’ll find poopy bag dispensers, honor system water bowls, and water throughout both shopping areas. Most stores allow dogs inside, and are clearly designated. Should you need to have lunch, dinner, or shop without the dog, a newly launched pet sitting service in Olde Lafayette Village, Fuzzy Nation’s “Fuzzy Station”, located adjacent to Fuzzy Nation) will dog-sit your pooch for a couple of hours.

Class descriptions
All classes are 6 weeks long. All Puppy and Training Level classes will take time to discuss common issues such as barking, counter surfing, and using their mouth in an appropriate manner. Our classes are unique because we have Olde Lafayette Village just outside our front door. This gives us the opportunity to train and socialize in real life situations not just a class room. Weather permitting we will take the dogs through the Village for REAL LIFE SOCIALIZATION.
Puppy All S.T.A.R.S
Train your dog to be a STAR! (Socializing, Training, Activity, Responsibility). This class will be a fun introduction to training. We will include puppy socialization/play time. The puppies will prepare for the AKC Puppy S.T.A.R. test. Basic skills such as sit, down, walking on a leash and recalls will be the primary focus. This program is offered to puppies of all breeds and mixed breeds. S.T.A.R. testing will be available periodically. (For puppies 6 mos. and under)
$120 Puppy Super S.T.A.R.S
For puppies between 6 mos. and 1 year that are looking for a Puppy S.T.A.R certification and beyond. In this class puppies will work on basic skills such as sit, down, controlled walking, and recalls. We will cover focus work and basic manners such as leave it, jumping, drop it, they will learn to greet people with manners, they will work on manners at the door, and stay. S.T.A.R testing will be available periodically $120
Training Level 1
This class is a fun introduction to basic skills for all dogs age 1 year and older that have not attended our Puppy Super S.T.A.R.S class. The class will cover focus work, sit, down, controlled walking, recall, greetings, and stay. We will work on manners leave it, drop it, jumping, greeting with manners and manners at the door. $120
Training Level 2-CGC Prep
This class takes basic training to the next level. The dogs will work on all skills needed to earn a CGC (canine good citizen) certificate. We will work on loose leash walking, dog to dog greetings, CGC greetings, go to your bed, advanced stay work, advanced recall work. Reaction to distraction and supervised separation will be discussed. CGC testing will be available periodically. PREREQUISITE , Puppy Super S.T.A.R.S or Training Level 1. $120
Tricks
If you want a class purely for fun this is the class for you! This class will offer a look at the way dogs learn. Through purely positive training we will teach a variety of tricks. There is no limit to the tricks you can teach your dog. Start here go, anywhere. $150
Rally Intro
Whether you plan to compete or just continue your training Rally is a great way to build a bond with your dog. Rally is FUN! Basic skills such as sit, down, heel, and stay are combined to create a course for you and your dog to show off your skills. All skills needed for Rally will be taught in this class. Both AKC and APDT signs will be explained and practiced. You will learn how to start linking short courses together in preparation for competition. $120
Rally Ring Prep
This class takes your Rally skills and hones them for the ring. Rules and regulations will be discussed. Ring preparation will be an ongoing piece of this class to prepare you for every aspect of trialing in Rally warm up to show time. $120
